Not Pashut Times for Shmefing
The Miir, Touro, and Heller are gonna have problems....
Chacham Rav Ovadia Yosef Shlita, in his motzei Shabbos shiur, came out strongly against smoking in the chareidi community.
He made reference to the local custom of a choson giving out cigarettes to his friends, calling it foolish, suggesting the distribution of sweets as an alternative. He advises roshei yeshiva who see talmidim smoking to rebuke them immediately.
The Rav made reference to a proposal by Deputy Health Minister (Yahadut HaTorah) to raise the cost of a pack of cigarettes by a shekel, stating that one who is willing to pay NIS 20 for a pack to smoke will spend another shekel or two without hesitation, discounting the validity of the move.

Why didn't this NPT party win?
This is one of the campaign videos from the "Aleh Yarok" - the Green Leaf party (the people who want to legalize marijuana.)
The following is from commenter on youtube explaining what is going on...
The ad shows Kopatsch (an Israeli comedian) smoking a joint while sitting on the grave of David Ben-Gurion, Israel's first prime minister. In this pastoral and politically significant setting, Kopatsch offers Ben-Gurion his insight on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
"David, We haven't talked for so long. Do you want a drag? Oh yeah, you only smoke cigarettes. You know what, David, there are over a million people in this country who smoke this stuff. Do you know how much it costs me? A fortune! And do you know who grows and produces it? Hamas and Hezbollah! Yes, David, yes. As a former minister of defense, it's important for you to know this. They're making a fortune out of this stuff, and they're using the money to buy rockets to launch at us. Isn't that a pity, David? Why shouldn't this be legal? If it were legal we could cultivate it here in the Negev and we could use the money to achieve positive goals!" The question is, says Kopatsch, what would Hamas and Hezbollah do with all the stuff they can't sell to us? And the answer is simple: they'd smoke it themselves! They'd smoke it themselves, and they'd be relaxed. And a good Arab is a relaxed Arab." (A play on the far-right Israeli slogan "a good Arab is a dead Arab".) Kopatsch takes a deep drag, exhales and stares into the distance as he surmises: "That's my take on security issues".

dad Alfie Patten yesterday admitted he does not know how much nappies cost — but said: “I think it’s a lot.”
Baby-faced Alfie, who is 13 but looks more like eight, became a father four days ago when his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman gave birth to 7lb 3oz Maisie Roxanne.
He told how he and Chantelle, 15, decided against an abortion after discovering she was pregnant.
The shy lad, whose voice has not yet broken, said: “I thought it would be good to have a baby.
“I didn’t think about how we would afford it. I don’t really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10.”

CAUTION! NPT AHEAD!
I'm waiting for the "Caution! Turtle loving zombie ahead!" sign...
Hacked road signs warn of zombies, raptors ahead
COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Hackers are messing with electronic road signs in some states, warning of zombies and raptors down the road. Traffic safety officials aren't amused. The latest breach came during Tuesday morning's rush hour near Collinsville, Ill., east of St. Louis. That's where hackers changed a sign along southbound Interstate 255 to read, "DAILY LANE CLOSURES DUE TO ZOMBIES."
Similar pranks have been pulled in recent days near Indianapolis and in Austin, Texas.
The Illinois Department of Transportation's Joe Gasaway worries that such pranks distract drivers from legitimate hazards down the road, perhaps endangering road crews.
In Illinois, tampering with an official traffic control device is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $250 fine.
